Harbingers

Introduction

Harbingers is a top-down real-time action game developed in Unreal Engine 4 by R9 Interactive, a team of 9. The player chooses between four classes to battle against the four Harbingers of the apocalypse and their minions. Each Harbinger has their own level, and each level features a different theme based on the Harbinger you are fighting: Famine, Pestilence, War, and Death. In the current state of the game your choices are restricted to the Mage class and the Famine level.

My Contribution to Harbingers

  • My role on this team was primarily VFX Artist and partly Technical Designer.

  • I was responsible for the creation of anything relating to particle effects or 'juice.'

  • I was also responsible for implementing all the VFX I created. 

  • Using UE4's Cascade I created a total of 12 complete particle systems.

  • In order to achieve this I also created 16 materials and the corresponding textures for each, using UE4's material system and Photoshop/Illustrator.

  • I created our toon shader, which featured outer/inner line thickness, a cell shader, and a camera tint.

  • I whiteboxed our first two map designs and made adjustments until we were satisfied with the size and layout.

  • Other miscellaneous in-engine tasks such as UI adjustment and implementing screen shakes.
